ABOUT SDK AREA – “RIRIÉRA”
This year’s 15th SDK will take place on 1 January. 7. 2019 – 7. 7. 2019, in the beautiful surroundings of the Brno Riviera, which underwent a complete reconstruction this year. It is located near the Svratka River and is one of the largest natural swimming pools in the Czech Republic.
Riviera complex is composed of two units, from the swimming pool and the free part. Over the pool complex there are two bridges that make it easier to move around.
A free zone is available to visitors at any time. There are several refreshments in the area, badminton, ping – pong and beach volleyball.
It is the second largest city in the Czech Republic by area and population. There are many interesting places, sport venues and historical sights.
You should not miss visiting the cathedral of St. Peter and Paul located on the Petrov hill or Špilberk castle – which contains not only a museum but also casemates – thanks to which the Špilberk castle used to be considered the harshest prison in the Austro-Hungarian empire. Underneath the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh) there is the Labyrinth under Vegetable Market – a second largest ossuary in Europe or the Mint Master’s Cellar (Mincmistrovský sklep). In the proximity of the Vegetable Market there is the Old Town Hall with the fabled Brno Dragon in its passageway.
In Brno there are many green parks suitable for relaxation, strolls, social or sports activities. E.g. Denis Gardens, which offer a beautiful view of Brno, Lužánky Park, Cow Hill (Kraví hora) or Brno Reservoir, with trees lining both of its sides, and above the reservoir the Veveří Castle – one of the oldest castle complexes in the Czech Republic.
There are also numerous galleries and museums offering a wide range of entertaining and interesting exposition or exhibitions. E.g. the Moravian Gallery, The Brno House of Arts or The Moravian Museum and others. There are 16 theatres, for example Janáček Theatre, Mahen Theatre, Reduta or the Brno City Theatre.
Brno Exhibition Centre belongs among the important parts of Brno; it provides an exhibition area of up to 190,000 m2. Trade fairs, concerts, shows, exhibitions, and many other events are being held there all-year-round. E.g. Techagro – the International Fair of Agricultural Technology, the International Engineering Fair or Festival LIFE!
Sound in body, sound in mind – Brno people know this and they do sports. You can go for a jog in the above mentioned parks, you can go for a swim to the swimming pool close to Lužánky Park, at the Cow Hill or in the popular natural aquatic centre Riviéra.
